The Melaninated Magician Blog
“Hello fellow traveler! There are certainly people who know more about ghosts or time loops or ceremonial magick or Paganism than me. Many of them are fellow Weird Collectivists. And there are also people who are more studied in Queer Theory or Critical Race Theory or Queer Black Feminism. I reference them all the time. BUT I’d bet that I’m close to the top of the list of people trying to merge the two.
It’s so clear that the pursuit of the Fortean/Keelean/Highly Strange/Occult/Numinous has been, at least in the popular consciousness around the West, very white, very cishet, very Christian, very male, and oriented toward abled people.
On my little corner of the internet, I’m trying to build more theoretical space for people of color, Queer folx, people of all faiths (and none at all!), people of any gender (or none at all!!), and disable people to not just engage with The Stuff, but to use our unique perspectives to build new frameworks for understanding, as well as providing needed critique on how the communities that pop up around all of it function.
Or put another way, I’m out here talking about racism and ablism and transphobia, but also about Hat Man. And hopefully making both a little more fun for everyone.”
